7 deer points where to use them in CO

i have 7 deer points and have been trying to determine whether to use them this year, or keep saving.

i do not do much rifle hunting, but think i will go with a rifle license. i had a unit 43 high country buck tag a few years back, but after 9 days of scouting all over the unit, i turned it in. i never found a deer that would go over 190.

i want a quality hunt, but i have killed enough deer that my minimum with any tag is 180. but with 7 points being used, my minimum is more like 190.

If you are really looking for

If you are really looking for a buck that will go over 190 then you might as well keep putting in for points for another 10 years, and then hope that you can find one.

While there are bucks out there that will go that many inches finding them is like finding a needle in a haystack even in a unit that is known for big bucks.  I cashed in 16 resident points a couple of years ago on a fourth season unit 44 tag and in all the time that I scoutted it found only 2 or perhaps 3 bucks that would go over 190.  Of those 3 bucks I believe that one got poached the day before the season opened and the other came off of the hill and took up living in town.  The third I never saw again.

Sorry I can't help.

I am curious did you see 180 class deer on your scouting trip?

I only have 2 NR points and want to do a high mountian archery deer hunt in the near future.  I've probably waited too long already since I will be 50 this year, but I'm going to give it a try, just not sure how many points I should collect before picking a unit.

i found a few deer in 43 that

i found a few deer in 43 that were 180 or so, one that may have been close to 190. but that year i had 3 bucks hanging out near my house that would go about 180. i did not feel like going in several miles for a buck no bigger than what i could get with a leftover archery 444.

43 deer population is not doing so well for the last few years. there are still big bucks there, just not as many as in years past.

i killed a 188 2nd day of archery season last year, and a buddy killed a 213 in 2nd season, both with leftover tags. so, if i am going to burn a bunch of points the deer had better be big.

i have not rifle hunted for deer since 2011. kind of want to kill another hard horned deer.
