6mm WSM?

I have been considering a 6mm wildcat build. Wondering if anyone has ever necked down a 270 WSM to a 6mm neck?

Other than that, the 6/284 or 6mm-06 are interesting rounds.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with my old 243 and I'll keep on useing it. but I would like to build a 243 cal that gives the 240 WBY a run in horsepower.

I'm not really interested in a 243 AI. I have two buddys with them and think they're great, but I need something other

You didn't mention it's uses... If i wanted such a cartridge, I'd look first to the 6.5/.284 or 6.5 Rem mag.  They are as flat shooting as anything u can dream up in 6mm.... (IMHO)

It sounds to me like having a 6mm WSM is something to have for the sake of having. I do know of a guy with a 6mm-06, barrel life isn't to good! If you just want a wildcat, go for it. But the heaviest bullet you'll get locally will probably be a 100gr bullet. Compare the 100gr 6mm WSM to a plain Jane 25-06 Rem with a 100gr bullet and where is it? My 25-06 shoots 100gr bullets in excess of 3300fps. The thing vaporizes what it hits with them. So bad I gave them up in favor of 117gr bullets that still hit 3079fps.

Thats what this project is.

Thats what this project is. Nothing that I need, does't even need to be economical. I have a ton of .243 stuff and want to build something in that cal. A 6-06 or 6/284 are most likely my best bets. I've got bullets up to 110 grn.

I already own more guns than I need so why not one more. I too have a 25-06 and really like it.

I built a 375/284 last year ad had so much fun I want to do it again. Just curious if anyone had ever built one on a WSM.

It would be a real speed

It would be a real speed demon and should be accurate but barrel life is going to be grim.  I would think a longer barrel and magnum powders would work great.  If you want to give a 240 WBY a run, how about a 6mm RUM.  hehehe

6mm RUM...oosh! Talk about

6mm RUM...oosh! Talk about over-bore haha. I have heared of guys doing a 6mm STW with the 8mm rem mag case. Don't think I wat to go that big. After researching this topic more, I think that the 6mm/284 is probly the gun for me. I've been talking to my gun smith about it and he likes the Idea too. He's a 6-06 guy but I'm forcing him to build me a 6/284.
