For deer and pronghorn antelope, I think I would prefer the .25-06.

If you are looking for bigger game -- elk, moose, black bear -- I think I would go bigger than any of these, starting at .30-06 and going up from there.

Thus, based on your selection of cartridges, I assume you are limiting the game to deer-sized animals and the .25-06 would be my recommendation.

Did you look at the 270 wsm ? It's around the most versatile cartridge you can find, and it has the same recoil as the 06. I use mine for everything I hunt, Deer, Elk, Bear, and pronghorn antelope. It rocks! very very flat with lots of knock down power past 300yds, and not alot of recoil.

My vote is for the 7mm.08. You are dead on correct that it can be loaded to be one helluva wicked round. Accurate as can be (mine is anyway) with pleanty of power and very limited recoil. So if its for your nephew (im assuming he isnt grown up) then the 7.mm08 would be a perfect calibre to get. Love mine!! Thumbs up

I've got a 25-06 and a 6.5x55. Have had three 7x57's (about like the 7-08). Nothing wrong with any of them. This is my third 6.5x55 and it will be my granddaughter's first big game rifle someday.

No flies on any you mentioned. You could do any one of them and not be wrong.

I like the 6.5x55 acurate and inexpincive.
My 2 cents F.K.
