I HAVE A 5A BULL TAG AND IT HAS BEEN YEARS THAT I HAVE HUNTED THAT AREA. NEED SOME TIPS REAL BAD . I WENT SCOUTING THIS LAST WEEKEND AND SAW NOTHING. MY HUNT STARTS NOV 27. SOME HELP TO KEY SPOTS WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS DONNY
Donny I've hunted all along the rim for many years but I've never hunted that unit.
Call the AZ G&F and ask them for the Game Warden's name & phone number for that unit. Call him or her up and ask them good questions. Don't just ask things like "where are all the elk at?" If you ask educated questions you will get educated answers. I do that for every hunt I get drawn for and sometimes I even go on ride alongs with them before the hunt starts. I usually only hunt the general hunts for big game so when I do go on a ride along there is usually another hunt going on and I really learn where the animals are from the Warden checking game at camps. Game Wardens are full of info. After all it is their job to manage the wildlife in that unit. YOU need to put in the time scouting as well. The elk aren't gonna come to you. Anyhow that's the best advice that I can give. Good luck on your hunt.
As a Taxidermist I look at hundreds of Whitetail Bucks every year. I know that I have seen many different ways people judge the size of racks on live deer. I think for the most part they all are pretty close. I'm going to give you some measurements that I have noticed being right on in just about every deer. We have used it in the last couple years and have only been off by about 5-6 inches. We do study the deer while bowhunting so we get a little more time to look at them....
