50th Birthday Hunt - Suggestions

I turn 50 next year and my loving wife offered to take out a large life insurance policy on me and send me on an unguided archery polar bear hunt....

Seriously, she suggested that I go on a nice hunting trip to celebrate. Now I am like a kid in a candy store. She didn't set a cost, but I would like to stay around $3,500.

Any suggestions on species and guides? I do want to hunt with a bow.

So what will you take for your wife? Thumbs up

Ah heck, African plains game. Nothing I'd rather do!

Well, I'd choose Alaska and you could even do a little hunting too.
Do you have to come back with receipts ?
I think Don Fischer is from Kansas, you two could party it up, he got lots of pics from his working vacation in Alaska. !!!!!!

I though about Alaska and sheep and caribou. But the big difference is, to get to Alaska all you have to do is get in the car! Africa, for most of us, is just a dream, for me anyway. And I think you can do a plains game hunt fairly cheap.

$3,500 to go hunting....humm. I would need to think pretty darn hard before I made the decision too. I'll think about it a little then get back to you but my first thought was Argentina!

I think the hunt in Africa is pretty inexpensive, but once you start adding in air costs to get there and shipping for trophies, it can get expensive.

I'll get serious on this post !!
I did some surfing and found this outfitter in British Columbia for a nine day Moose hunt($ 3650 US) by far the cheapest of the ones I checked. Might be worth a"look into"
http://www.omineca.bc.ca/hunt/ratesanddates.html

The ones I checked in Alaska are pricey indeed.

Thanks - I've been window shopping ala google alot. I checked out that site and saw black bear which interests me too.

If anyone has any personal experience with an outfitter I'd be interested in hearing from you.

cam69conv:
I think the Outfitter is allowed an alloted number of licenses for his/her customers so if you are accepted for the hunt, no problem with the license( but the cost is added). Residents wanting to hunt on their own are subject to a draw I beleive.
But I have no personal knowledge, just what I can Google Up.

Yeah Hammer Its like that in All of Canada from what I can see.....They Just run out fast....Some of the outfitters are moose booked for 2 and 3 years..CVC....If you dont care about Horns (cant eat the damn things anyway) the cow hunts are much cheaper.....PLUS....An adult Cow is gonna be A LOT tastier than a Rutted up old Bull....I look at it this way......300 to 400 pounds of TASTY meat verses 600 Pounds of Hamburger that you might not even wanna put in CHILI..Greatest of luck in whatever you decide
