Air rifles have been around for ages, Napolean had a standing order to shoot ANY man found with an air rifle who was NOT in Napolean's army. Napolean's army carried .64 caliber air rifles. The rifles had what looked like "spit toons" hanging under the trigger guard as a air resivour. Air rifles at the time where perferred over black powder rifles due to reliability in wet weather.
