50 BMG's and Crime

The politics section has been pretty quiet lately... so here goes....

CA recently banned new 50 BMG sales and regulates existing owners under the pretext that is will "prevent gun violence".

Is anybody aware of any crime ever being committed anywhere in the states with a 50 BMG? That's not a rhetorical question, I'm serious.

Not that I've ever heard of. This is just more hysterical reaction from the crowd that is frightened of guns, not because of what they DO but, because of what they MIGHT do.

I actually found a few examples, although the examples are far and few between compared to crimes being commited with other cartridges.

Marvin Heemeyer of Granby bulldozer fame had a 50 with him.

Albert Petrosky of Denver used a 50 in the albertson shooting back in 1995.

Donin Wright of Kansas City, Missouri shot at peace officers, paramedics, and others from his home, one of the guns used was a 50.

Apparently the Branch Davidians had a few 50s, although the debate still rages on who the criminals were in that case....

Kind of an old topic, but I saw an ad today from Barrett for their 50's that says at the bottom:

"Barrett FMI will not sell to any California government agencies".

Presumably, this is a slap at the CA government for banning 50's. Good for Barrett, I hope their LEO lobby their state government to overturn the ban.

For those that don't know Barrett's M82 put the shoulder fired 50 BMG on the map.

Barrett will not sell to any CA governmental agency nor will they service any CA agency owned Barrett product. This came from a letter written by Mr. Barrett. Reason being that he refused to put himself or his employees at risk in CA and to deal with CA over this issue.

Good for him!
