.50 BMG

Anyone own a .50 caliber rifle?  I think it would be cool to own one and the non machine gun types are affordable, but our range won't let us shoot them.

Yeah I was thinking about one

Yeah I was thinking about one for antelope hunting.......just gotta get some where close to them and I think the shock wave of the bullet just going past them will suck all the oxgyen away from them and suffocate them....not meat lose.

LOL - I bet the tolerance for getting close will be about plus or minus a yard.  I think I've seen a hunt with one on youtube.  I will have to see if I can find it and post it.

Used to have one

I used to have one, but I just didn't shot it enough to justify tying up two grand in it.  So I sold it and used the money to buy 2 or three OTHER rifles!  They ARE a hoot to shoot though!

I think the days when you can own one are limited.

California has already banned them.  Sad to say that NY will probably follow because our politicians can't seem to think for themselves.  So if you want one I recommend that you go get one in the near future!

Last I knew ammo was selling for about $2 per round.  That seems like a lot, but not when you compare it to "tamer" more "sporting" cartridges like .416 or .470 Nitro!
