4th season (unusual) buck

Here is the buck I shot 4th season . Glanced at the antlers, knew something was out of the ordinary. He stopped behind a tree, waited until he stepped out and squeezed the trigger. He was about 60 yards. Hit him 2/3 the way up right behind left shoulder, slightly quartering away. Bullet exited and took out a little bit of the right shoulder. He took about 10 steps and that was it. I was using a 7mm WSM with 140 gr Acubond behind ReLoder 19. He wasn't a real big deer, body or antler wise. Left side was 6 points, right side had 7 points. I figured he damaged the right side when he was still in velvet. Any way it was good to finally tag a deer here in Colorado.

Hiker,

Unit 46, just south of Mt Evans Wilderness area, it was my last choice. I did not do my homework well on selecting that unit. Not much access, most blocked by private land. I only scouted the area twice before the season. Saw more elk sign than deer, but connected on the second day. Only heard 3 shots for the first 2 days. Not much hunting pressure, probably due to lack of access.

Thanks, yes it is a conversation piece.

Ripstop, Yes that is suppose to be a really good elk area. I had a high school teacher who use to hunt up there and he'd tell me all about the big bulls he'd see but was 23 years ago. I'm glad to hear it's still a good elk area. I've thought of giving that area a try and one of these years I might do it.
