Some Opinion Please:
Frank Barnes in his Cartridges of the world, spoke of attaning an honost 2300 f.p.s. out of a 22 in. barrel in .458 Lott. Most data that I have read online suggests low to mid 2200 f.p.s. velocity range from tthe 22 inch tube. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Barne's wisdom but read to the contrary on his stats. Also, (can't remember the website) , but have read a difference of 10 f.p.s ,as a general rule. for every inch of barrel length in this caliber. I realize it depends on bullet weight, power, and rifling rate of twist, among other variables. I own a custom made Lott using a remington left hand action, shilen barrel. 24 in, but was muzzle braked 2 inches down. Was not my first choice on the break, but who can argue with the wife when it was a gift. Very accurate rifle.
Thank You for any input, Phil
