A 4 Rifle Battery for North America

What would you consider a good 4 rifle battery for hunting North America?

I've been regrouping my rifle battery for North America. Already have two of them.
300wsm w/22" bbl. for all around and extra.
270wsm w/29" bbl. for high desert/prairie.

considering
243win on the low end.
405win w/350gr Hornady as a thumper.

If we are just talking rifles.

243 win

30-06

300 mag of some variety (win mag, wsm, rum, wthby mag)

375 H&H or something in 416

The last one would be for a rare moose (for me) or grizzly hunt.

The first one would have to double for varmit hunting; however I might substitute a 223 rem for the 243win and use the 30-06 for deer.

Nice all around selection of cal's.

I've been a 30-06, 270, 338, 243 hunter all of my hunting years. I thought I would try some of the new cals on the market. I'm already committed to the 300wsm, 270wsm. Can't come up with a small cal. that's better than 243win. and the 405win just looks like an thumper, although the gun smith thats doing the metal work on my 270wsm is building himself a 375 whelen. That one looks thumpy too. Might go with the whelen instead of the 405.

.25-06 for varmints, small game, antelope, small deer.

.300 Win Mag for large deer, elk, moose, black bear, etc.

.375 H&H for if I ever go on a brown or polar bear hunt.

.54 muzzleloader so that I can actually have fun hunting deer, elk, moose, black bear, etc.

I agree with donmillion, you gotta have a Muzzleloader in the basket.

I would choose the 30.06 as a combo all around rifle. You can get ammo anywhere from 125 gr for varmiting to 220gr for the Elk and anywhere inbetween for Deer, Pigs, and Bears.

Next I'd have to have a .308...just cause I love that cartridge.

Then the .375H&H for those bigguns and anti tank round.

Then to top off the list a T/C .50 cal muzzleloader, cap lock not inline.

For Polar Bear and Brown bear..not many of those in florida but I'd just use my ole Old Timer pocket knife on them critters.

1. A 22-250 for varminting.

2. a 260 Remington for closer deer and light game.

3. 7mm Remington Magnum for big, heavy CXP3 animals and long range deer.

. 300 Weatherby Magnum for big stuff at longer range.

I really wouldn't be able to decide...but one of them would have to be a .22 LR. I mean, you wouldn't be shooting that pesky bunny or a noisy tree rat with a 338 Mag would ya?

Right now I would go...(of course these can change at ANY moment..hard to leave the .308 out)

.22 LR
6mm Rem (great varmint and deer combo)
.280 Rem (good for deer at longer range, or for elk at moderate range)
.35 Whelen (anything in North America with good handloads)

I could be happy with these four, thank goodness I'm not limited. Honorabel mention go to the .308 and .260.

a. 223 swift
b. 270 win
c. 300 win mag
d. 54 cal black powder
I do use the 300 for shooting ground squirrels with. Have the Remington and like it much better than 270 win.

I quess 4 rifles just isn't enough rifles for a guy to use. 4 is kinda pushin it to the minimum.
I would also have to include a 22LR and a muzzle loader. With an additional few more just because.

Captain_Obvious, I have never shot a 338 MAG. But when I bought my 300. I was told about the kick it is supposed have. To be honest with you my 270 win. wood stock mote Carlo style ,seems to kick harder than my Remington 300 with synthetic stock.
We all know the style of a stock has a lot to do with it. I almost bought a 338, but the 300 has a much better bullet range that you can choose from. The only ones that I shoot now are the 54 cal and 300.
