.308 case to make 7mm.08

Ok Boys....Ive been reloading alotta years but Ive never done a changeover for like wildcats n such and have always used fireformed cases to reload....I cant seem to obtain any 7mm.08 cases new and would like to but cant find the damn things....What Id like to know ...Is there much work to makinf them from a .308 case? Will I have to worry about shoulder length or anything like that or will My sizer die do all the work for me? Anything Ill need special to do this? Or should I just say scwuu it and just go get a few boxes of hornadys and then have the cases for after to play with loads?

I haven't done that caliber but you should be able to resize and trim to length. Load a minimum load and fire-form. The neck wall thickness may be thinner so it would be something to keep an eye on.

I can't see you that you will have to trim that much. It is not a great jump from 7.62 to 7mm

Uhg..... .020 is a good lil bit....I wonder if thats gonna cause any probs with ma gap to the lands...Scwuu it...Ill just buy a few boxes of elcheapo rem loads (need to break in the barrel anyway) and just use fireformed cases from my own gun...works better like that anyway in my own experiance to have then fireformed from the chamber your reloading for...Thanks fellas

Cam,

Hammer is right, it is shorter. Not a problem. When you size down from 30 cal to 7mm, don't full length resize. That will leave a small bludge at the base of the neck for the case to headspace on. You might also seat the first bullet's a bit into the lands to help hold the case. Back off the powder chg a few grains. When fired, the case will form itself to spec. On the overall length, new cases are usually close to max length. Sizing down will streach the neck somewhat. Between the two, you'll use up a good bit of the length needed. Another fiering or two without trimming and you'll be there.

The max length of the 308 case is 2.015". The trim lenght of the 7mm-08 is2.025". It won't be a problem. Your other option would be to neck up 243 cases.

Was gonna get the interlocks......I know a few that got the light mag horn's that say they really flew great outta thiers....I shot a few outta mine and it really grouped well. So I think ill just get a box or 2 of them and then maybe a box or 2 of the 162 grainers for the larger boys like Elk Thumbs up
