30 degrees Saturday night

The long range forecast shows the temps in SE Illinois to have a high in the mid 50's on this coming Saturday with a low around 30!!

Saturday will be the start of a week long bowhunt for me - my first time in the Midwest ever!

I do admit to some "cold fear" but I hope the lower temps have a few rut crazed bucks moving about!

I will be on weather watch all week.

The shame of this trip is that I am solo - early on I had quite a few hunters that wanted to go but for one reason or another, they were all weeded out.

Nevertheless - I will be there, Lord willing!!

Come on Saturday!!

Jim

Wow Jim.  30 Degrees oughta

Wow Jim.  30 Degrees oughta get them moving.  Talked to my parents today in Vermont, and the wind chill was 25 degrees.  Kids were freezing while collecting candy.... lol

Nice.  It was actually a bit

Nice.  It was actually a bit nippy here this morning.  But of course, nippy for here this time of year is low 50's.  Still gets them moving though.  Had some great local bucks shot this weekend.

A Bit Nippy?

Yeah - It was that way here too in S.E. Michigan - an hour north of Detroit.

It was 21 on my thermometer, and a good, heavy frost. I saw a thin layer of ice on two different small ponds this morning.

It's supposed to be the same tonight.

We call that, "frost on the pumpkin" around here.

It's just what we need to get them up and moving.

Good Luck on your hunt, Jim. Are you going to be hunting public land or private?

Hey CA-V and Jaybe, I am

Hey CA-V and Jaybe,

I am going to be on public land... I went for Memorial Day and scouted it out - 12 hour drive - and I am cautiously optomistic I can get away from the crowds...

I am sure that Monday through Friday am will be a little better - the weekends have to be more heavily hunted.

I do not really know what to expect, deer wise - I know they are still deer - but I wonder if they behave differently, etc...

The other thing is that I have not bowhunted in almost 20 years and have never bowhunted in the cold.

I know it is a steep hill for an older guy like me - but, go I will.

Thanks!

Jim

It sounds like you guys are

It sounds like you guys are getting a good cold snap. Or atleast we are getting further into fall and its actually starting to act like it. That should be good for hunting. Atleast it should get the deer moving a little bit. Just make sure you keep that trigger finger limber. You do not want that thing freezing and locking up on you just when you have got the big one in your sights. Have you gotten any snow or are you just facing colder tempertures at this point. Good luck and hopefully mother nature will cooperate.

I will be bowhunting so it is

I will be bowhunting so it is the "release" finger that will be cold.

I bought some Under Armor gloves and just like their other products, they are good as gold.

These are the thin ones with the rubberized palms and fingers... I can hold the bow and use the release with then on - but they are not overly warm... I will try to keep my hands in the pockets of the jacket and pull them out when I need to.

72 hours now and I will be driving up!!!!!
