Will do. Should be hunting in the morning, as long as my 6 week old isn't too sick......
How did it go, Ca_V? Have any luck? See any deer?
Ugh... I don't even want to talk about it.......
Missed my alarm, bottome tree step fell and I took a tumble, scared 2 deer bedded by my stand, then saw nothing the rest of the day.......

That is a rough day in the woods!
Have you tried the climbing sticks? They're a lot safer and easier & quicker to put up.
It's just an old wooden stand with wooden steps, so I have not thought about putting any climbing sticks or anything on there.

I call those old, sketchy set ups widow makers. I find them all the time out here in Colorado and always wonder about what old timer erected the thing. They are usually in an aspen grove over a small pond within a half mile of a road. I'm sure that the stand has seen its fair share of killed bucks, bears and bulls but I wouldn't be caught dead in one! Or found dead at the bottom of one for that matter. I have climbed up into some of them and some I have really wished I hadn't.
The one I use is still in very good shape. It was just that one step. I guess that's all it takes, but at least it was the bottom step.
My uncles have 580 acres in minnestoa and have a dozen or so of those wood tree shacks as i call them set up. They are usally set up about 30 feet in the air. They seem to do a good job on the upkeep on them as no one has had an accident(yet). some of them even have roofs and little shooting windows so they can put little heaters in thhem for those days when its below zero. When i lived there 12 years ago i hunted there and used one, it was the first time in a tree stand and man I'll tell you I'm not made for those things, i cant sit still.
Good luck to you.
