What are your guys thoughts on the difference between hunting the 2nd and 3rd seasons in Colorado for deer? I am looking at unit 66, which I have elk hunted in and I know that one good snowstorm will/can force all the deer to the wintering areas by late Oct. I am thinking that a majority of deer will be lower and not too spooked from earlier seasons, which should increases my chances.
I have the points to draw a 2nd season, but I'm years away from a 3rd season tag at the current rate. When I started applying for a unit 66 tag it was like 4 pp for a 2nd season tag and 6 pp for a 3rd. Now the 3rd season has basically doubled. I would rather use my points now and get back to hunting units like 35, 63, and 40 every few years. But likewise I don't want to "throw away" 7 points. I will be combining a hunt with my brother, nephew, and my 6 yr old boy. My nephew will hopefully have a bull tag and me and my little boy can hunt the lower areas for deer.
Second question for you guys that have kids what age did you start taking them hunting? I took my boy last fall in OK at 5 yr olds and he enjoyed it and wants to go back. But I know that several days in a wall tent and camping can change a little ones attitude. I started tagging along at 4-5 with my dad, but did not carry a rifle/shotgun until 12. Thanks - Preston
