270. for Moose?

As I have posted this elsewhere in this forum, I have used .270, .308,30-06 and 300 win mag to take moose, from as close as 50 yards out to about 250. I shot my first moose at 15 ( 35 years ago) and see no reason why any of the above mentioned calibers would not suffice. Mind you, in my part of the country there are only black bears, and if I lived in a part of the country that had dangerous game ( Big Bruins, Kodiaks and the Griz) then I too might reconsider my options. Shot placement is most important to humanely dispatch any animal. Be it a .270 or 375...putting one in the cheeks only brings misery and pain. Additionaly, I would never take a poke at an animal that was greater than 300 yards out. I know my shooting skills enough that even with a well sighted in rifle, I am not capable , cause I have never tried or practiced at that range and would never use a live target to try to find out.........my two cents worth..........just another newbie .....

thanx for the first hand info north,Im sure the 270 would be enough for moose as long as you consider your range limits,if it can be done with a bow you can do it with a 270!

.270win Is actually a Superior cartridge to that of the 30-06 In my opinion a 150gr 270, penetrates better than a 150 grain 30-06. Both factory ammunition.
Remington 150 core lokt.

We tested this at our local range, And set up 2layers of Mill felt, and coffee cans filled with sand.

we tested at 100 and 150 yards

The 270 went further with the same amount of expansion. the 06 made bigger boom and a harder recoil.

Believe it or not. Think

It really depends on the load. The '06 also delivers more downrange energy than the 270.

Both with factory 150gr loads at the same distance the 270 penetrates better before expansion and is Just as or even more lethal On moose.

I am shooting 150gr power points.
Also with NO adjustment it will shoot 130gr power points.
Only they are about 2 inches high at 250yards in comparison to the 150's
SHOOT YOUR 270 for moose, you will not regret it.

150-gr. bullets in two different calibers cannot be compared as apples to apples. Oops!

The 270 Win 150-gr. Power Point has a higher Sectional Density bullet (.279) than a 30-06 180-gr. (.271) and should easily penetrate more than the '06's 150-gr. projectile - even though they are the same weight.

Furthermore, a 30-06 150-gr. bullet is much closer to a 270 Win 115 to 120-gr. load, so in this context, it's easy to see why the 150-gr. comparison is apples to oranges.

In summary, a much fairer comparison would be a 270 Win 150-gr. versus the 30-06's 180-gr. load.

OK OK so then When It is said that, YOu should shoot moose with a 30-06 because you can use a 180gr bullet they should say well lets see you could shoot a 30-06 180gr- OR a 270 150gr and Still knock that mooses shoulder off at the amount/or close to the same amount of punch to the moose with less recoil.
Hmmm...you may as well have said this yourself, The 270 is the obvious winner.

Flat shooting PLEnty of knockdown, and less recoil. Not to mention Its Joy to shoot.
