.243 65 gr V-Max- loads??

I have been shooting 85 gr varmit bullets in my .243 but want a better bullet for prairie dogs and see Hornady offers a 65 Gr V-Max--I cannot find any loads in my Loading books--Any one have one? I like V-Max bullets and that's all I shoot in my 22-250's--55 grainer's

By better do you mean more explosive? My son used some 55gr Noslers and they came apart very well. I used the 75gr V-Max for quite awhile and it really blows up. I don't have data on the 65gr bullet but use the 75gr data. Start a couple grs low and work up. Your max load will be a bit over the max for the 75gr bullet. Watch pressure when to pass max for the 75gr.

Widux, what powder are You using? I have that info in one of my books. Let me know what powder and I can let you know if it is in the book.

Finally--I found some loads for the 65 grainers at hodgdon but they only list H380(42-45 gr) od powders i usually use--i was going to also try H4831 and IMR 4350 but will look in my other books to see what's up.Might try imr 3031.

Just use the data Hornady has for the V-Max and work your way up.

Widux, The only powder that is in the Hornady book is the IMR 3031. Bottom load is 32.1gr and top max load in the red is 38.6. I personally like the varget powder for my .243 I use the 55gr nosler balastic tips with 43.5 to 44 grs. of varget they work very well and youll like the chunks they leave. I'll do some more looking round for some info on the V-Maxs.

243 65 gr V- Max bullets--Hodgdon online data- has H380( 42-45 gr) also--I'm going to start with IMR 3031(36.5-39.8)cause I have some also H380 cause I use a lot of it in my 22-250-- will post what i find- thanks again for info.Vargent is listed at 38-41 grs.

AA2520.....................34.0 to 39.6
IMR 4320..................34.3 to 41.8
RL-12........................33.6 to 39.0
VARGET....................35.1 to 41.7
IMR 4064..................35.4 to41.2
RL-15........................35.5 to41.7
VIHT N-140..............35.9 to 42.3
VIHT N-160..............42.6 to 47.9
