.223 wssm problems?

Hey everybody, new user, cool site.
I have a win. m 70 coyote in .223 wssm and have had nothing but problems. Had one rifle go bad in just 50 or so shots. The bore was losing its chrome lining so I sent it back and they sent me a brand new one. After only a couple hundred rounds I am having the same problems. I toned down my handloads, 50 gr. v-max at 3700, and have only shot them. Factory loads are much hotter. Just wondered if anybody had the same problem. Can't send it back again. Caliber grouped really, really well for the first 100 or so shots.Felling just a little baffled and jipped.

.223 wssm problems?

My best friend got a browning 223 WSSM for xmas. When i was oiut at his farm we decided to clean our guns together. I cleaned my 270 and it took about 35 clothes untill it came out clean. His took the other few hundred and still never came out clean. The barrel and rifling is a mess on that thing. I think the company must not have tested it properly because i think they put too much powder in that thing. the bullet is as fat as a 7mm cartridge, but is only a inch long and necks down to a 223. When he fires it you can see all the black smoke and unburnt powder come out of the end of the barrel. Theres more thatn my 270 Overall i dont like this calliber. The only thing i would personaly use it for is coyotes and squirells and other varmints. sad

Thanks for the input. I really am hoping it's not a caliber problem and just a problem with the chrome lined barrels. I tried selling and no one would buy,(big surprise). I'm debating weather or not to invest in a after market barrel but I'm not sure I want to put any more money into it.
