22-250 for deer?

No by fail he means expand voilently and fail to penetrate to vital organs. I feel that the .22 centerfires are a lot like buckshot, they do work in the right conditions and lord knows they've been used to kill some big ones. I personally wouldn't carry a rifle that small during deer season until I filled my tag, for the reason you stated, you never know when that big deer will show up.

.22-250 works great for antelope (where legal), should work fine for smaller deer.
