Mike - that's a spittin' image of the spike I shot. Same scenario - thought it was a doe (even the oak leaves look the same). Had a doe tag, so it was no big deal, but I was surprised.
Alpine Archer - My wife uses a 7mm Mauser (Ruger M77 7x57). It's a great deer getter, for sure.
I bet he'll eat real good! Congrats on a NY buck of any size :) Kevin
P.S. Are you coming bear hunting with us this spring?
You sure know how to tempt a man! lol.
THANK YOU for teh invitation. But I think I will save up for either a trip back west to hunt muleys in the area I know with the friends who live there, or take a moose hunt. But I DO want a bear someday....
If you're lucky enough to be on private land and can leave your stand up during the off season you can tie an old piece of cloth or something of the sort to your stand. I like to use an old camo bandana that I have. That way the deer get used to the movement and eventually don't bother even looking up when there is slight movement. This may just give you the time to draw your bow or raise your gun without being detected.
