2005 Montana Achery Antelope

Went out today to our place near Augusta today and took a very nice archery buck, the shot was 62 yards and I hit him in the lower back corner of the shoulder, the arrow penetrated the shoulder and went in far enough to pierce the heart. He loped about 50 feet and fell over backwards. The carbon arrow is still in one piece but the muzzy 100 gr is in pieces, the tip is blunted like a bullet and the blades broke.Really happy with this buck for our area,he is bigger than the buck i took last year with a rifle season tag!Whooooooah!!!The season has begun!! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Way to go, nice buck. You antelope archery guys constantly amaze me with your skills. Not easy to close the gap on antelope to within 40-60 yards.

Nice Antelope!! Applause

This may be off topic but what are your pins set at for such long shots?or do you use a pendulum sight or something like that?

I use a basic pin setup with 20,30,40,50,60 and 70 yard pins.I use the smallest size pin I can get with the fiberoptic heads. Most of the friends I have that hunt goats all practice out to 70 here in MT.I have seen 30-40 yard shots made from the blinds but most of us use a decoy and spot and wait type of hunting for them and very often they wont come in any closer than these long ranges, they like to hang up around 60 yards and stand there stompin thier feet and raking sage with thier horns.I spotted this guy from a distance of about 1/4 mile and came up over the ridge behind him at the 62 yard range so I never even setup the decoy,he was busy watching a MD doe run away that i had spooked. Thumbs up

Holy Moley! My pins are set at 15 30 45 yds. Do the antelope, rams, deer, or whatever it is not jump when the arrow is released. The deer usually jump or duck when the release is made. Most people won't try a shot past 40-45 yds. How often do you practice long range shots like that?

Before antelope archery opens i practice these long shots every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day.I wouldnt shoot this range at an elk but antelope have a VERY thin skin and if you put a hole in em anywhere in the kill zone you dont need to put 2 holes in em to kill em. Thumbs up
