Just got back from a hunt in New Brunswick and had good results with the 20GA, I shot a bear about 200 lbs with 3" magnum copper solids which broke both shoulders and put the animal down without a twich, my wifes nerves got the better of her and she missed her bear. I will continue to use this round as it worked very well when placed properly. Also we had a great guide, Jamie Weeks of New Brunswick who worked hard to get us several shot oppertunities and is an all around gentelman who knows how to treat his clients. Jamie is a regular contributer to this forum. I will follow up with some pics soon.
Congrats ![]()
Is this your first bear?
How big, what color?
He was about 200 lbs black, my second bear, slightly smaller than my first but a much better hunt because he took so long to get into a good position, he sat at the base of my tree and looked up at me for a while before running off then came in to the bait after about ten minutes (what a rush). This was my third bear hunt and I think Im hooked, I run a sportfishing charter boat and have been involved in some very big fish (giant tuna, big sharks, marlin) but the excitement level when that bear steps out is awesome. Anyone who says hunting over bait is easy should try it first.
Super!!!!! I am glad you got the bear. ------ It was fun, wasn't it? ----- Good choice to get the premium ammo.
Sweet lets see some photos
Here's the pic of that bear, no monster but made me happy, got some good roasts and about 35lbs of sausage from him.

congrat Cappy
monster or not a bear is a bear and every bear is a trophy no matter how big or small
Enjoy ur bear
nice bear man congrats.
Congrats... I never would have though the 20ga would do much good, atleast on one shot... Id like to see what it does on a bear twice that size..
What do you plan to do with the hide?
The Pennsylvania Bear Trapper that works the area near my house carries a 20ga with slugs (just in case!). Very deadly at close range. It's a 50 cal. hole!
Just to clarify, he works for the game commision and has to have approx 60 animals tagged and/or radio collered every year for population estimates. Don't want anyone thinking he is trapping bears for fun ![]()
i dont know if id wanna hunt bears with anything less than a 12g
