12 gauge slugs for Cape Buffalo or Elephant ?

Can a Brenneke Magnum Crush ( 3in, 666 grains, 1604 fps, and 3804 ft.lbs all at the muzzle. )or Brenneke Black Magic ( 3in, 600 grain, 1502 fps, 3014 ft.lbs all at the muzzle. ) take a Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Lions, or other dangerous game at 75 yards or less ? If these slugs can't do it which ones do you recommend ?

The Magnum Crush is 1 1/2 oz slug and the Black Magic Magnum 1 3/8 oz.

Well, I’d just say at the outset, that is not the best idea anyone ever had!

First off the use of a shotgun for Cape Buffalo or elephant is not legal with any slug! That being said, the slugs you mention will not penetrate well enough to be even close to being reliable for even lion, much less Buffalo rhino, or elephant.

Having personally been among them I can tell you that even a 470NE with a 500 gr solid is hard pressed to get to the brain of an elephant, and will some times not even shoot all the way through a cape buffalo if in encounters a heavy bone on the on side. Additionally even the mono metal solids that are properly made from a 470NE or 500NE will not stop a Rhyno, Buff, or ele in a concentrated charge unless the brain or spine is hit, and even if the bullet is very close to those two things they may not even slow him. Even a lion will sometimes stop a 458 Win Mag 500 gr bullet before it gets to the vitals.

Those animals are not whitetail deer, and a shotgun is designed for birds and deer at close range. The only place anyone uses a shotgun for a member of the big five is for follow-up on leopard, and most PHs will not use a shotgun for even that, and when they do they don’t use a slug but use heavy shot shells. Even when used on leopard most times it is from a 10ga or 8 ga double with buckshot, not slugs.

Go get yourself a good Whitworth, or Mod 70 CRF 375H&H, or a 458 Win Mag and leave to shotgun in the deer blind, or duck-boat!

I was reading bear takes

I was reading bear takes years ago and it got to a part discussing the ability of a slug on grizzly bears.  Appearently they did testing and found that to penetrate the skull of a grizzly, you need to be within 20' or less of the bear. Cape Buffalo and Elephant appear some what larger to me. There are lots of things hunters do for no appearent reason other than to say they did it. If their plan fails, me feel very badly for them and life moves on! Usually though, the more dangerious the animal seem's to be, the less chance people are willing to take.

I actually think that if you

I actually think that if you could find a solid copper slug to shoot out of your 12 ga that it just might take care of a African water buffalo and or a elephant, but they don't make them and as was said they are not legal to use on either of them. The thing about using a 12 ga with a slug on grizzly bears is that if you do have to use it you will be quite close to the bear and a large chuck of lead will likely change the bears mind when it gets hit by it. I know that when I watch Alaska State Troopers on TV is that when they go into the bear woods they are pacing 12 ga pump shot guns loaded with slugs for the bears.
