How close is he getting? How long is season? Was he using the same route the times you did see him? What have you already tried? Are the does using this same area?

For now I would be as cautious as possible. He seems to really like this area and if the does are there he may not roam very far. If you have plenty of season left, I would wait for him to make the mistake. If you make the mistake it may be the last time you see him. If he is using the same spot try tl get set up within range.

Lots of things to try but could end up spooking, You never know. Take it easy for now and maybe get a little more aggressive as the season ages. Scents, decoys, calls, apples, rattling,.....

Becareful and GOOD LUCK!

i hunt two huge patches of woods that funnel into about a 150 yard width. (like an hour glass shape one patch is real thick i know thats where the big deer hang out and the other patch is hardwoods not as much thicket. although ive hunted both patches quite a bit i see more does and younger bucks in the hardwoods patch rather than the thicket. wondering when best time to hunt hardwoods vs. thicket in season morning afternoon. im waiting for the rut to heat up before i try anything like decoys and scents. the woods are about 50 acres or so im just having trouble locating this big buck ive seen other younger six's and so forth. im not hunting over the feeder i have the feeder timer set for 8am and 8pm i sit on trails leading to the feeder to catch them on there way to feed. i dont believe in hunting directly over a feeder. i just want to put the smack down on this buck before someone else does. this is my first year hunting this property i moved in with my girlfriend and she has the woods behind her house. thanks for all replies. season is open until feb 4th, hes getting about 80 yards or so away hes much bigger in person WOW! i seen him once in the hardwoods patch and in the thicket but no shot was presented the closest he got the last time was about 50 yards or so and im not comfortable at shooting at that range so i didnt take the shot. i want to make sure when i take the shot on him its not a wound or a miss but a direct hit. you know what i mean one shot and i need to make it count i dont wanna go robin hooding from 60 yards ya know. thanks man

Be patient. As the weather cools and the pre-rut starts, he'll get more active.

If you use a climber, make sure you leave it outside (out of the rain) at all times. Some of the climbers have padding and fibers that can trap scent, so be sure it doesn't smell like the inside of your house.

Keep us posted. Yes

still pursuing

still no luck with this big guy- the weather here in ohio is starting to turn its now getting into the 30's rather than staying in the high 50's and sixties. i went last weekend and seen a whole bunch of does and two young year old bucks one is a developing five and the other is a basket eight small. the eight will have a great rack in a few years or so. i have been really moving around stand sites trying to find the most deer activity and the main feeding sources along with the trails and the places where the does concentrate considering the rut is just around the corner. I have found where the does feed heavily and where they bed. which is great for the rutting bucks if i can stay on them does during the rut. i have been working late hours so i havent been able to hunt during the week as much as i would like. Right now its strictly to the weekend for me. Im taking off the 9-13th from work -due to that is when the peak rut activity is projected. Im gonna hunt hard sun up to sundown and with my knowing where the does travel feed and concentrate i dont see why i wont or shouldnt be able to bring the big boy into shooting range. ill keep you all posted and let ya know what i see and whats going on anyone else chasing a particular big buck, or just out to get what walks in front of them?

What brand scout cam do you own? I am looking to purchase one that is not too expensive but don;t think I can trust the $75-$100 range camera.

Hope you bag that Buck!
