North Dakota Works on Migratory Bird Hunt
North Dakota Game and Fish Department put in their proposal to increase the number of Canadian geese a hunter can harvest during the early season. The department would like to increase the daily limit to 8 with a possession limit of 16. Also the proposal seeks to start the early season on August 13th, a couple days earlier than usual. The early season would end September 7th in the Missouri River zone and September 15th for the rest of the state. The Missouri River zone closes early to add the additional days to the end of the regular season. The early season also has different hours than the normal season, one half hour before sunrise, until sunset.
Adding the early season will hopefully help in reducing the numbers of the Canadian goose, with just a regular season the numbers are still too high.
Normal licensing requirements for the regular season, including a federal duck stamp, apply to the early season. Nonresidents who hunt in Benson, Ramsey, Towner, Sargent and Richland counties during the early season may do so without counting against their 14-day regular season license.
