North Dakota Works on Migratory Bird Hunt

North Dakota Game and Fish Department put in their proposal to increase the number of Canadian geese a hunter can harvest during the early season. The department would like to increase the daily limit to 8 with a possession limit of 16. Also the proposal seeks to start the early season on August 13th, a couple days earlier than usual. The early season would end September 7th in the Missouri River zone and September 15th for the rest of the state. The Missouri River zone closes early to add the additional days to the end of the regular season. The early season also has different hours than the normal season, one half hour before sunrise, until sunset.

Adding the early season will hopefully help in reducing the numbers of the Canadian goose, with just a regular season the numbers are still too high.

Normal licensing requirements for the regular season, including a federal duck stamp, apply to the early season. Nonresidents who hunt in Benson, Ramsey, Towner, Sargent and Richland counties during the early season may do so without counting against their 14-day regular season license. That's actually a great thing

That's actually a great thing to see. It's been a while since I heard of that population being too high. In recent years, the Canada goose limits had been lowered, while the number of snow geese has increased exponentially.  I remember when it was almost flipped.  Great to see the population is good enough for North Dakota to increase the limit.

I love the Dakota,s but have yet to have a chance to hunt them.  My buddy used to go for a combo hunt for pheasant and waterfowl each fall, and raved about the hunting.

I saw a report out here in California that the waterfowl numbers in general are up.  Great time to be into waterfowl hunting!

I'm all for more hunting opportunity

I'm all for more hunting opportunity if the game population will bear it.

North Dakota Game and Fish Department is following New York state with their proposal to increase the daily limit to 8 with a possession limit of 16 in an early September season.  That's what we have here now.

It seems to be working well here.

Although I do not hunt

Although I do not hunt waterfowl a whole lot I would love to get out more. But with kids and work I really am limited on how much I hunting I do.Thats why I stick to my deer hunting.

But it is always great to hear that you can shoot more than could before. It adds alot more fun to your hunt. Hope this works out for North Dakota.

Very interesting!!  I a

Very interesting!!  I a actually have some land I can hunt in northern North Dakota..real close to the Canadian border.  My wife family has some really good huting land up there I just not have had a chance to get up there and they keep begging me to come up there and hunt some geese.  Maybe with this early season stuff and better daily limites I may just have to get my fat butt up there.  I really want to get up there it's so close to Canada that it would be like hunting Canada, just without all the hassle that goes along with crossing the border.  Hopefullymthey do it again next year I already have those dates filled for this year, but I may have to keep them open for next year!
