Black Bear Gets Free Ride
A black bear surprised himself, and some Vancouver residents on Monday. He had followed his nose into the back of a dump truck, and was focused on eating. The dump truck driver was oblivious to the passenger in the back and drove from North Vancouver to just outside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Downtown Vancouver.
Conservation Officer Alex Desjardins got a phone call that there was a bear in town. He is used to a lot of deer in the area but the last time there was a bear call was when one was under a roller coaster a couple of years ago. By the time Desjardins got to where the dump truck was, a crowd of spectators had formed, and there was a containment area for the bear around the truck.
The bear who was quite frightened after his moving meal, climbed on top of the truck. Desjardins missed once with a tranquilizer dart, ended up putting a syringe on a pole and sedating the bear that way. The bear was uninjured and is expected to recover fully. They are going to check the bear when he awakens and then relocate the yearling bear. From News1130.com.
