New York's Department of Environmental Conservation estimates there are around 7,000 bears in their state with an ever growing population. The bears have spread out into a variety of habitat and are even found in developed areas now.

Next weekend the bear season starts in upper New York. The Adirondacks is home to the largest portion of the state's population. With an estimated 4000 to 5000 bears in the area.

Opening next weekend, the early bear season runs through October 14th. Hunters are allowed to use bow, muzzleloader, handgun, shotgun, rifle or crossbow during this season. From The Wall Street Journal.

After enduring so many attack

After enduring so many attack stories for most of this year it's good to see things getting back to normal with the regular seasons opening up. Good luck to any of you guys up there that might gat a chance at one. So far I've not had a chance anywhere but I'm going to try and change that in the next couple of years somewhere. Probably not New York but it's good to see that they have so many of them.

Thanks

Thanks for the update.  Here's another reason that I need to go get my license ASAP! I gotta get my antlerless deer tag application in before October first!

I appreciate the reminder.  Thanks again!
